This picture was taken from St Paul’s when there was a lot of building work going on in London.  All of these buildings are fantastic in their own right and London is a richer city for having them.  What it gave me is a sense of is how important it is to design the new with reference to the old – but also with an eye on the future.  What you get then is the very best of both – a new idea which pushes boundaries made possible by technological developments over time – and a new idea which mets all of the existing criteria on greatness.
